Power of Rest in Worship
When we understand the true meaning of worship, we will totally change the way we approach it. I share from my own experience, and trials and errors. I was taught to be very well prepared and cared for every need on the team and be an extremely great servant, which all of these are correct. But when the weight of leading worship and the logistics become a pressure to you, you are no longer in worship. The very meaning of worship is presenting your BEING (not working!!) You see the Levites approach the throne with fine linen that is such an revelation. The very act of worship require rest on our part. If it's not in rest, it is not worship. That's why when we approach worship in rest and ease we feel His presence easier we can hear the Lord and follow the Lord much easier, and after worship we feel refreshed and renewed instead of tired and burned out. I feel the Lord whisper to me today, revelation come from the place of rest. We were raised to work hard, fast and pray, and do all these things to earn revelation from God. But HS told me revelation comes when we are resting. Wisdom and revelation will seek us out, and not us chasing it down. You see unless the Spirit reveals, no one will know. It is up to God if He wants to show you favor and give you a nugget of gold. His ways are rest and watch what I'll show you. The place of rest is what brings the glory realm in worship, and is what will open up the revelatory realm in worship.
In the formal IHOP H&B model sometimes the singers and musicians are trained to never stop and always open their mouth and release something, which is a good method for training. But for the mature, you must approach worship from rest. It is ok to not sing, it is ok to wait in silence, but when there is words we release it in faith. But the whole model must be approached in deep rest. I think in doing so, the worship team and congregation will find themselves quickly entering into the glory of God, and many having visitations and breakthroughs.
Also do not confuse rest with fear. When you don't sing because of fear that is another issue than knowing who you are and yielding to the Spirit. I find that many Chinese singers struggle clarity of what is rest, and what is timidity. Many can't find the right balance. Sometimes afraid to sing because it is out of place, but come in too many times when clearly it could be a moment of depth. I think this takes experience to discern. For me I just have to be real honest with my self, and go with my gut feeling. If I feel the presence it's almost like I can just not do anything, I'll follow that feeling. But if the present and a revelation comes it gives me an inner momentum or sometimes excitement to jump start a rhythm or melody or song. So let the HS lead you, and allow yourself and your team to make plenty of mistakes. ;)
