What is man? ~1
Psalm 8
What is man that you are mindful of him the son of man you are mindful (paqad) of him? You made him a little lower than Angels (or 'elohiym) and crowned him with glory and honor.
The question here is interesting, what is man? It's a good question for us to understand what is God's definition and intention of man. I'm also in the search of this understanding, I believe only in eternity we'll truly grasp the glory of this. Paqad here means pay attention to, look about for, to visit, visit upon, appoint, assign, watched over, made overseer, be entrusted, commit, commit to care, or called to account. It is a word full of meaning. Pondering about our identity makes us wonder, why? Why me? Why mankind? Why does He make us so important to Him? Why is he paqad of us? He is God, and He uncreated, majestic, eternal, powerful, the Almighty one, the Great I Am, the Holy one, the Author of time and history. Why does He care? Why bothers Him so much of human affairs? He has no reason do anything for us. He doesn't need to do things for us. It's unthinkable that He planned to redeem mankind through first becoming a man and emptied Himself. God became a man for eternity. There's no possible way we can understand such truth that He will choose to draw near to a lowly being like us--but except his great mercy and love.
