Knowledge of God

Let's take a look of the great difference between Saul and David. In many ways, these two men are very similar. They were picked out by the Lord and previously they were both no body in their eyes. They saw themselves as one who received the grace of God.

1 Sam 15:17
Although you were once small in your own eyes, did you not become the head of the tribes of Israel? The Lord anointed you king over Israel.

Psalm 8:4-6
What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than heavenly beings (God) and crowned him with glory and honor. You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet.

The Lord out of His great mercy and compassion loves to give beauty for ashes, garments of praise replacing their mourning. The Lord is the Lord of widows, orphans, and the broken people. It is the Lord's will to use people like that. However, Saul's reaction and David's reaction to God's grace are very different.

Who has the knowledge of God?
David is a man who is sincere and earnestly wanting to know God. He has a passion to seek God and know God's character and personality. David is a man who loved the word of God and God's precepts. The difference between Saul and David is David loves word of God and He is a man who seeks the knowledge of God: What is God like? Who is He? What is His eternal quality? Because He had set His heart in the search of the God's vast ocean of divinity, David had proofed Himself to be loyal to God. Saul on the other hand has no interest in truly knowing God He is too occupied with the blessings that comes in the way. David however is preoccupied with the passion of knowing God. David understood the fear of the Lord which enabled Him to succeed to the the end.

Acts 13:22
After removing Saul, he made David their king. He testified concerning him: 'I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.

David is one who understands the characters of God through God's word. Day and night meditating on His words

David once says:
Psalm 12:6
And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace of clay, purified seven times.

Psalm 19:7-11
The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the [whole] person; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure and bring, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even than much fine gold; they are sweeter also than honey and drippings from the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is Your servant warned (reminded, illuminated, and instructed); and in keeping them there is great reward.

David knows the ways of the Lord through experience.

Psalm 18:25
To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless, to the pure you show yourself pure, but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd You save the humble but bring low those whose eyes are haughty. You, O Lord, keep my lamp burning; With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.

The pathway into the knowledge of God is this:

Proverbs 2:1-6
My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear o wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.

Samuel addressed the central issues in Saul's life:

1 Samuel 15:22-23
Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed better than the fat of rams. For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has rejected you as king.

Many Christians pursue God out of duty and sacrifices. They know the man of God and the woman of God, and they look up to them, but they never know God and understand God for themselves. They will quote the right words and right passages, but they never know God's ways. When the day of testing comes, they cannot stand just like Saul, in the millennium God will quote the same words to them, because you have rejected my word (ways) I will reject you to rule and reign with me. It is time for us to know God for ourselves and dig in His word to know Him like a friend. Let's keep this in mind and begin to pursue the knowledge of the Holy one!!
