Spending Time with God

Day of Sabbath
Jeremiah 17:19-27 tells the importance of Spending time with God. God see this so highly. He warned Israelites many many times in the bible to see the day of Sabath as holy unto the Lord. Ezra reforming the temple burned with anger because the Jews would desecrate this holy day. What is the Sabbath? It is a day of not doing anything, not busy with things business as usual. It is a day of complete fasting from material things, turning off your facebook and cell phone. Shutting off the TV, and saying goodbye to your friends, and running deep in the place of intimacy and prayer to God.

The Curse
God says He will come and burn the gates of Jerusalem when His people will not spend quality time with Him, when they will be possess by the earthly things and business as usual. He will come and burn the fortresses and make the city ruined. Gates speak of protection of the His people, they will be utterly removed. And fortresses are strongholds that keep the enemy out. When a Christian lacks the stronghold of righteousness and truth, they cannot stand against the attack of the enemy. They are too weak.

Why Sabbath
Apart from Him we can do nothing. Jesus says, you are the branches and I am the vine. Where does our strength comes from, the presence of God. It comes from the communion and the rooting of the heart in the truth of God. Where does our success comes from? It comes from the Lord, it comes from the anointing and favor of God. We will loose our ability to bring impact and influence people and circumstances around us, and we become weak vessel and ultimately useless to the Kingdom.

Verse 25 says, when we count the day holy, setting apart a day to fast and to seek the Holy Face of God, we will not fail to have a king in the city and officials which is speaking of the influence and the day of government and power. The Kingdom will come and rule over us and our circumstance, other things will have to submit to the rulership and dominion of the Kingdom, so this make things easier and powerful. It also says that people will bring sacrifices and spices the Lord in the place, which is speaking of the aliveness of the heart of God's people. It will be a genuine devotion to the Lord. The alter of the Lord will be alive, and the heart of God's people will be vibrant and full of life. They will offer off true praise and worship in sincerity. Without spending these long hours of seeking, we cannot develop a genuine alive heart to God in wholehearted worship.
