Seeing Intention
We see results, and God sees intention. A mother can put some restriction on the child, and gently helping him to grow. The child quickly reacts and say, mom, don't you understand that I can do that alone myself. Don't put all these restriction around me!! I'm full grown! I can handle it. The mother simply smiles. The child disgusted by her smile, and turned away. Why does mom always have to do that! I can't take it anymore.
Every child knows what I'm talking about. When it comes down to ministry at church the same scenario plays out. Sometimes the disciple can be so frustrated because when will be the day that I step in your place as you promised me. When will be the day that I can take your spot and do what God has called me to do? The pastor smiles gently, and said, just wait my child! It'll come! Just wait my child.
Love always protects, and love always believe always trust. The child must learn that the mother puts up the restriction is only to protect him. It is the mother's gentle love that slowly nurtures the child into his manhood. But the child just can't wait! The child thinks the mother just wants to oppress him, just want to restrict him for the sake of restricting him because mom likes to control people!! But the child is still only a child, for he cannot see the big picture.
One day the child grows up and stepped into his adulthood, he will look back and begin to see all those years, his mother has gently protected him from much danger and foolishness. Only then, he will understand the wisdom that he needs to step into his calling.
Joseph was made to be the highest governor there is for any human to walk in under the sun. If he would've stepped right into his place as a young child, his call will be destroyed, no one would ever remember him or Israel. Because of God's gentle love, God has led him through trouble waters, only to diminish the self-life that's in him, so that real humility can be brought forth in his heart. I love what he says at the end of the story when the brothers came to him to beg for mercy. He says, am I in the place of God?
This one revelation can keep us going: God is the point of everything and His glory. He does whatever he wants. We are made for Him, not Him for us. For this reason, we must obey every situation he has given to us because it is His great love and mercy. Only one day we will understand the full glory of it, that we have the honor to choose him in this present evil age.
