Joseph the dreamer
We had learned many divine lessons pertains to a Christian life from Joseph's life. At youth Joseph was receiving incredible prophetic anointing--Dreams and Visions. Being the son of Jacob, one who regularly sees God face to face, angelic encounters. The spiritual DNA of Jacob is also upon Joseph. The Lord has made Joseph to be the head in the spirit in the whole family and not the tail. But this is what the Lord is teaching Joseph in regarding the the leadership style in His kingdom. It's a kingdom of humility.
Joseph being a young man, he loved his gifting and all the prophetic destiny. He showed off to his brothers and father. Being the favorite one of his father, he's afraid of nothing. He had all that he needs. He walks like a king, a prince out of all the brothers. He thinks if the dream is true, I am the head not the tail than all my brothers though they are older than me, they will all become my servants. He boldly shares with his brothers although he knows he should respect them and honors them because of age. Joseph did the opposite out of his youthful zeal and ignorance, he shows his brothers his anointing, his future destiny, his future ministry. He is proud and zealous, not knowing the ways of God and what God had in store for him.
Joseph went through the land of suffering for 13 years before he stepped into the fulfillment of the prophecy. The prophetic word was given to teach Joseph the greatest knowledge in His life-- to Know the Lord. To know His ways. To walk in His ordinance. Separated from his brothers, Joseph was anointed with great favor from the Lord. Wherever he goes, the Spirit of the Lord goes with Him. That kingly anointing with wisdom and revelation. Joseph was a prophet since a young age.
What was the Lord teaching Joseph in His journey in the quest of Knowing God. Every time Joseph was put into the trial, he was shown extraordinary favor from people around him. It is even visible to people that the Lord's hand is upon Him. He is the anointed one, others better be careful with this man.
Gen 39:3
When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did.
Gen 4:138
So Pharaoh asked them, "Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God?"
Joseph had learned to develop intimacy with the Lord through out trials and difficulties as to obtain such place in God that God's presence can rest upon him and even the Spirit of the Living God can make His abode in him. He must've remembered the God of Abraham and the God of Jacob has such history in his life, he begins to seek the face of God everyday. In the land of suffering, loneliness, desert Joseph learned to walk with the Lord. Joseph learned wherever he goes, the Lord is sovereign over all things. He is greatly protected and watched, no one can take his life except by the will of God.
Gen 48:16
The angel who has delivered me from all harm--may he bless these boys.
When Joseph was promoted to be ruler over Egypt, he says this profound statement:
Gen 41:52
It is because God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering.
The revelation that was given to Joseph was that glory only comes alone with suffering. When to men it seems like a bad day great loss, but it is actually a great gain. It prepares the way for fruitfulness and glory to come. It is the key to spiritual growth and experiencing God's glory -- through the suffering the Lord has prepared for us. Joseph learned to submit under the mighty hand of God.
The most significant revelation that was given to Joseph's whole life was the revelation of God's sovereignty and his grace. Joseph sees the mistreatment of his life is actually for the purpose of saving Israel and nations of the world. He begins to see the leadership and the goodness of God. Joseph knows it is the grace, the mercy, and the goodness of God that actually sends him into the land of egypt to prepare him to become a deliverer of man.
Gen 45:7
But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.
Joseph begins to understand the leadership of God is His love and mercy. His grace has kept Israel alive and planning to bless and prosper Israel as he promises. Joseph knows he has nothing to boast when he takes on the leadership role, all he has is by the grace and mercy of God--because he didn't want to be sold to Egypt at the first place. He learned to submit and trust God for all His plans through His chastisement and disciplines, Joseph has came to know God's faithfulness.
The word of the Lord came to past as his brothers fall before him and beg for forgiveness. Joseph says the profound statement as he had finally understood the true purpose of the dream that the Lord gave him when he was 17. He wept and wept with tears of thankfulness.
Gen 50:18-20
His brothers then came and threw themselves down before him. "We are your slaves," they said.
But Joseph said to them, "Don't be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.
Joseph finally sees the purpose of the vision. It's humility. When he was actually in the moment of fulfillment, he wasn't like when he used to proclaiming who he is to everyone lifting himself up, but rather-- he humbled himself. Am I in the place of God? He knows that all things are in God's hand, he only played a small part of what God wants to do and bringing salvation to many. He quickly motioned the bothers to get up and gave glory to God. God's intention of the whole prophecy is to show us His way of working how different is it from men's ways! Who can think of the knowledge and wisdom of God. Joseph surely didn't think of the fulfillment of everyone bowing to him actually means he becomes a servant of his brothers and instead of looking to himself, he looks to heaven and give him all the worship He alone so deserved. That was the intention of God!!
